Alejandro G. Inarritu's Back-To-Back DGA Wins

Christopher J. Scott has worked as a writer, producer, director, and managing member of Domicile Films, LLC, in New York City since 2013. Christopher J. Scott maintains memberships with a number of industry organizations, including the Directors Guild of America (DGA).

In 2016, Alejandro G. Inarritu became the first director in the long, celebrated history of the DGA to win consecutive awards for feature film directing. In 2015, Inarritu secured his first victory for his work on Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance), starring Michael Keaton, Edward Norton, and Emma Stone.

Inarritu had already achieved critical acclaim with films such as Babel and 21 Grams, but the critical success of Birdman brought the director to new heights. In addition to the DGA win, Birdman took home directing honors at the 2015 Academy Awards along with Oscars for Best Motion Picture of the Year and Best Writing, Original Screenplay.

Just one year later, Inarritu returned to the DGA winner's circle in recognition of his work on The Revenant, starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hardy. The DGA victory once again foreshadowed widespread success for the film during the 2016 award season, with Inarritu scoring a second consecutive Oscar for feature film directing as well as awards for Best Achievement in Cinematography and Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role for DiCaprio.
